Welcome to Class 2's page!

Hello there! Welcome to Class 2, The Rockets. Our Class name was chosen simply because all the children in Class 2 are super-duper 'out of this world' pupils, but also because we aim high, just like a rocket. We hope you enjoy finding out a little bit more about us.
What have we been up to?
One of our favourite topics from last term was looking at The Willow Pattern. This involved lots of Literacy and Art work. Although we really enjoyed reading and acting out a version of the Willow Pattern story, our proudest moment was seeing the Willow Pattern plates we had spent a VERY VERY LONG TIME producing go up on display. These involved lots of fine art work - we had to use super-fine brushes and were only allowed one shade of blue. The results, as you can see below, were stunning and we've received lots of positive comments about the display.

Summer term = new topics!!
What are we going to be up to this half term? This is what....
History
Our first big topic this half term is a History-based topic where we'll be finding out all about the Fire of London. This topic has always been a popular one and I'm sure it will be again this year. As well as looking at the history of the Fire, we'll have plenty of opportunities to be creative as the topic involves Art and lots of collaborative DT. Look out for our Fire of London frieze which, I'm sure, is going to be fabulous!

R.E. and Music
The Rockets will be working with Mrs Ward this half term for both RE and Music. In RE, we will be looking at parables and other stories Jesus told. Our Music topic is based on 'pitch', so bring your fine voices, folks! Mrs Ward can't wait to hear you hit those high notes!

Science and DT

In science we're going to belooking at Magnets and Springs. This topic will begin in week 4 and will also involve lots of DT as we'll be making our own fridge magnets.
Homework
Homework is set on a weekly basis in Class 2. It goes home on a Friday and is expected back by the following Friday unless otherwise stated. The standard of homework is always fantastic and children are mentioned on a regular basis in assembly for the amount of time and effort spent on homework tasks. Below is a super example from Jack M, who built a huge and completely brilliant labelled model of the Island of Coll as part of our recent An Island home topic.

Want to know how you can support this work at home?
- Visit Penistone library! What can you find out about the Fire of London?
- Get online. There are some really useful websites which provide lots of information about all our topics.
- Have any of you been to Pudding Lane, London ? If so bring in some photos.
Thank you!
Thanks to parents for continued support at home. Please keep practicing spellings and reading books. The homework record has been excellent so far, so thanks to the children and keep up the good work!
