Thurlstone Primary School: Class 2

Welcome to Class 2's Page

Hello there! Welcome to Class 2, The Rockets.

Our Class name was chosen simply because all the children in Class 2 are super-duper 'out of this world' pupils, but also because we aim high, just like a rocket.

We hope you enjoy finding out a little bit more about us.

Please click the headings below to reveal more information.

Outdoors

Our class have been out and about, learning in the Wildlife Garden, the allotment and the playground.  As you can see, we've had a great time.

Special Events

Children in Need day was a great success.  The children came to school dressed in spots and took part in a variety of Pudsey and spotty activities.

The Christmas productions were thoroughly enjoyed by all the children and staff (and hopefully the audiences).  We were very proud of our children, learning so many songs at such a young age.

The new term

The theme for the beginning of this half term was...

            DINOSAURS!

The children did some wonderful work that included baking, modelling, printing, measuring, dancing, singing and writing about Dinosuars of all shapes and sizes! The children had a great time and their wonderful work is displayed in the classroom.  Please feel free to come in and have a look.

'The Great Fire of London' and 'Materials' are Class Two's current themes, which are mainly History and Science-based.  They've already investigated suitable materials for building, The Three Little Pigs' houses and found out some amazing facts about London. (Check out the FANTASTIC homework in the corridor.)

Homework

Homework continues to be of a very high standard. Please look in Class 2's Homework File (outside our classroom) to see what wonderful things our children do at home.

Our online curriculum-based website - Education City, is still popular with the children. Each child has their own user name and password to log on and access their homework. We continue to set a mixture of homework so that children can produce their work in a variety of creative ways.

Homework is set on a weekly basis in Class 2. It goes home on a Friday and is expected back by the following Wednesday, unless otherwise stated. The standard of homework is always fantastic and children are mentioned on a regular basis in Special Mentions assembly for the amount of time and effort spent on homework tasks.

We realise that you have lives out of school and that sometimes you do not have time to complete everything set.  We are understand this and if your child is unable to complete the homework, just let us know.  Reading and spellings are always the most important activities, if you are short of time.

Fundraising

Class 2 have continued to be an enterprising young bunch again this year.  In the Autumn term they planned and organised two small fundraising events.

Events included -

  • sale of blackberry flapjack
  • purchase of Christmas gifts for parents.

Most of the money raised is used to pay for things for their own classroom, including ingredients for baking, treats for Big Writing and toys for Indoor playtimes.

Watch this space to see what they plan and organise in 2012.

Our class mascot is called, Pooki.  He is a firm favourite with the children who love to take him home for a night, weekend or school holiday, as a reward.

The staff in Class 2 are a marvellous bunch!

Miss Brown teaches from Monday to Wednesday but is available each day of the week if you need to speak with her.
Mrs. Ward teaches on Thursday and Friday, with Mrs. Smeaton covering the class for one lesson.

Our Class has two wonderful Teaching Assistants - Mrs. Lisa Hinchliffe and Mrs. Claire Wood.

If there's anything you ever need to know, please approach any of us and we'll try and help (After school is usually better.).
