Thurlstone Primary School - Class 2

Welcome to Class 2's page!

DISPLAY

Hello there! Welcome to Class 2, The Rockets. Our Class name was chosen simply because all the children in Class 2 are super-duper 'out of this world' pupils, but also because we aim high, just like a rocket. We hope you enjoy finding out a little bit more about us.

Staff in Class 2

The staff in Class 2 are a marvellous bunch!  Miss Brown teaches from Monday to Wednesday.  Mrs. Ward teaches on Thursday and Friday, with Mrs. Smeaton covering the class for half a day.  There are a variety of Teaching Assistants that work with Class 2 - Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Penistone, Mrs. Hinchliffe, Miss White and Miss Mead.  If there's anything you need to know, please approach any of us and we'll try and help.

Summer term = new topics!!

What are we going to be up to this  half term? This is what....

Theme/s

We have some fabulous creative topics going on at the moment.  Our 'Light, dark and shadows', Science-based topic is inspiring the children currently to explore light and shadows.  Let's keep our fingers crossed for a bit more sunshine to help us with the 'shadows' part.

We are currently making stained glass windows, linking some R.E. work on Bible stories with the, 'Light and Dark' work as well.

In the final half term we will be finding out about, the Seaside.  We can't wait to go on our trip to Filey (Mrs. Ward's favourite place!).  Friday 25th June is the date for your diaries.  Don't forget your bucket and spade (and a raincoat)!

Literacy

In Literacy, the children are looking at different books by the same author.  We're concentrating on Martin Waddell and Julia Donaldson.

Our other big topic- An Island Home, is based around the, 'Katie Morag' stories.  The children are busy designing and making a very impressive island, which should be on display in the next few weeks.  Just this week they enjoyed making, 'Porridgies' and there are many more exciting activities planned.

Homework

Homework is set on a weekly basis in Class 2. It goes home on a Friday and is expected back by the following Wednesday, unless otherwise stated. The standard of homework is always fantastic and children are mentioned on a regular basis in Special Mentions assembly for the amount of time and effort spent on homework tasks.

We now have a fantastic online curriculum-based website that can be accessed for homework - Education City. Each child has their own user name and password to log on and access their homework.  We will still be setting a mixture of homeworks so that children can produce their homework in a variety of creative ways.

Examples of some of our class' great homework can be seen outside our classroom.

Want to know how you can support this work at home?

  • Visit Penistone library! What can you find out about the Island of Col/Light and Dark?
  • Get online. There are some really useful websites (as well as Education City) which provide lots of information about all our topics.
  • Pracitse your times tables.

Thank you!

Thanks to parents for continued support at home. Please keep practising spellings and reading books. The homework record has been good so far, so thanks to the children and keep up the good work!

Outdoors

We have recently enjoyed our outdoor environment.  We have throughly enjoyed helping out with our school chickens and think that our class chicken, Appollo lays beautiful eggs.

We have also been busy digging, weeding and planting in the allotment.  We're keeping our green fingers crossed for a good crop, so that we can sample and cook with some of our home-grown produce.
